Designed by a speech-language pathologist, ARK's Probe is an excellent tool for oral motor treatment and sensory development. It has a rectangular tip that is bumpy on one side, striated on the other, and smooth along the edges. The proMini has the same design as the Probe, but is slightly smaller for use in smaller mouths. The proPreefer has a round end instead of the rectangular end found on the Probe. It has long striations around its circumference that are perfect for when a "rolling action" is desired. Use them to stimulate the gums, lips, palate, cheeks, and tongue through stroking and by applying pressure. The various textured surfaces provide tactile input, awareness, and sensation, which is particularly important for individuals with oral defensiveness and/or food aversions. Each of these products is sturdily constructed out of medical grade materials that are FDA compliant and contain no lead, phthalates, PVC, BPA, or latex. Dishwasher-safe.

With so many infants and toddlers diagnosed with seizure disorders, I have turned back to the basic probes as an alternative to the z-vibe for targeting oral motor skills. The various sizes and shapes offered make it easy to use and adaptable for different size mouths. I use it primarily to target tongue lateralization and chewing. My little ones sit right down and open up for the "mouth moves" during therapy.
